Tours fill up quickly and so can rentals, so we do recommend making advanced reservations. If it rains, we refund your tour 100% or reschedule (your choice). If the Book Now feature is closed for a tour up to 1 hour before a scheduled tour, give us a call.

Our cancellation policy allows a customer to cancel a tour for a full refund up until 24 hours prior to their scheduled tour time. If it rains, we refund your tour 100% or reschedule (your choice).

Kayaks are sit-on-top single and tandem (two people per kayak) that can be paddled solo as well. Life vests are provided.

Combined weight limit of 450 lbs. per kayak. If you are over that, we can separate you into 2 kayaks.

Tours last about 1.5-2 hours, we ask that you please meet at least 15 minutes before your scheduled tour to use the bathroom and sign waivers. Safety overview and kayaking instructions will be provided.

If a child is old enough (6+) to sit in the kayak safely on their own, regardless of paddling, then they must pay for their own seat. An adult must go with a child.

Please wear comfortable clothing, yoga pants, swimsuit, light layered clothing and flip flops, water shoes or shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat are a great for sun protection.

Bring a small towel to throw over your lap or dry off with if you want to go for a swim (sometimes you get wet from paddling). Bring water or we have bottled water for purchase.

Yes, American alligators do live in Buffalo Bayou, though sightings are not guaranteed. They are most commonly spotted resting on the banks in the early morning. Alligators in urban bayous generally avoid humans, and no guest has ever had an unsafe encounter on one of our tours. Guides are trained in bayou wildlife and will point out any sightings safely from the water.

Yes. The section of Buffalo Bayou used for our tours is calm flatwater with no rapids or strong current under normal conditions. Tours do not operate during or immediately after major rain events that raise water levels. All participants wear life vests and receive a safety briefing. The bayou has been the site of guided kayak tours for many years without serious incident.

Light rain does not cancel tours – paddling in a light drizzle is part of the experience. Tours are cancelled when there is lightning, severe weather, or significantly elevated water levels from recent rainfall. If we cancel due to weather, guests receive a full refund or the option to reschedule.

Water bottles are welcome and encouraged – stay hydrated, especially in summer. Alcohol is not permitted on tours or rentals. Light snacks are fine as long as you can secure them in a dry bag.

Street parking is available along Commerce Street and nearby blocks. The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern parking lot on Sabine Street is a short walk away. There are also several paid lots in the surrounding blocks of downtown Houston. Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes before your tour to allow time for parking and check-in.

Tips are not required but are very much appreciated by our guides. Most guests tip between $5 and $10 per person for a good experience. Guides work hard to make the tour informative and fun.

Yes, but protect it. We sell dry bags on-site for $20 that keep phones and cameras safe. A waterproof phone case or zip-lock bag also works for shorter outings. Some guests bring a lanyard or wrist strap for added security.

All participants wear life vests, so you will float. Guides are on the water with every tour and will assist anyone who falls in. Sit-on-top kayaks are easy to re-enter from the water – guides demonstrate the technique during the safety briefing. Getting wet is part of the adventure.

No special fitness level is required. Kayaking on flat water is low-impact and accessible to most adults and older children. Guests with limited upper-body mobility should contact us in advance so we can discuss accommodations. The tours are designed to be enjoyable for first-timers.
